Adhan (Call to Prayer)

Words of Adhan are:

الله أكبرُ الله أكبر

Allahu Akbaru Allahu Akbar

Allahu Akbaru Allahu Akbar

Ash’hadu Un La Ilaha Illallah

Ash’hadu Un La Ilaha Illallah

Ash’hadu Unna Muhammadan Rasoolullah

Ash’hadu Unna Muhammadan Rasoolullah

Hayya Alas Salah

Hayya Alas Salah

Hayya Alal Falah

Hayya Alal Falah

Allahu Akbaru Allahu Akbar

Laa Ilaha Illallah

Above is the correct wording for Adhan that is narrated by numerous companions of the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihe Wa Sallam in multiple collections of Hadith.

Iqama is similar to Adhan except the addition of Qad Qamatis Salah, Qad Qamatis Salah immediately after Hayya Alal Falah.

It is Sunnah to call Adhan for all five daily prayers and Jumuah Prayer.

One should add Assalatu Khayrum Minan Nawm twice after Hayya Alal Falah during the Adhan of Fajr prayer.

Adhan should be called with slow pace and melodious voice. Iqama should be said in a faster pace.

One should be facing Qiblah while calling Adhan and Iqama.

Index fingers should be placed inside one’s ears while calling the Adhan.

One should turn his face towards right while saying Hayya Alas Salah and left while saying Hayya Alal Falah.

Adhan and Iqama should be called when offering a Qadha prayer. Adhan should not be called before it’s time has begun. One is not allowed to talk while calling Adhan or Iqama. Adhan and Iqama should be called in a state of purity.
