Importance of Friday Prayer
Narrated by Usama Bin Zaid (R.A), the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihe Wa Sallam said: Whoever missed Friday prayer three times without an excuse, he will be written among hypocrites.
For Muslims around the globe, Friday is the most important day of the week and Friday prayer is the most important prayer of the week.
Friday prayer is a very special prayer that is offered in afternoon on Friday and it replaces daily prayer of Zuhr which is offered at the same time during other days of the week.
Friday prayer is prescribed due to the evidence from Qur’an. An entire Surah is named after this day and this prayer.
Friday prayer did not become obligatory until the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihe Wa Sallam arrived in Madina after his migration from Makkah.
Friday prayer has to be offered in Jama’ah (congregation). The minimum number required to offer Friday prayer is 4 according to many scholars. An important part of Friday prayer is Friday sermon or Khutbah. Khutbah has to be delivered before Friday prayer and all those in attendance must listen to it attentively.
One must make every effort to attend the Friday prayer in their nearest Masjid and not miss it at any cost. One should ensure their attendance for Friday prayer even if it requires some leave of absence from work during this time.
The above Hadith amply highlights the importance of not missing Friday prayer without an excuse. If someone has an excuse such as sickness, circumstances that are beyond one’s control then there shall be no blame on them. Those who miss Friday prayer due to an excuse should offer Zuhr Salah instead.
However, if someone misses Friday prayer regularly then the above Hadith has a very strong warning for such people as it expels such people from the list of true and sincere believers and take them into the list of hypocrites.
May Allah keep us all on the straight path and accept our good deeds. Aameen
