Salaam Mufti Sahab, I have to create a quotation for a client but i fear that i may be doing something fraudulent because i am one person but want to be paid as much as two. I am both a designer and programmer. If someone hires me then should I quote the sum of two salaries? i.e. if a programmer gets paid $15/hour and a designer gets paid $20/hour should i charge $35/hour even though i will not do both tasks simultaneously? Secondly, is it lawful to tell the client that the project will have 2 programmers and a designer and then hire only one programmer while i do the work of the second programmer and also draw a salary as a designer? So basically, 2 people work on the project instead of 3. Is it okay to do this if the client is told only if and when they ask and not otherwise so that there is a known risk of them inferring 3 people are working? Thirdly, is it lawful for me to pay local rates to employees but quote international rates to clients? i.e. tell the client the programmer's charge will be $15/hour but pay the local wage to the programmer at $7/hour and keep the rest of the $8 as profit?

Wa Alaikumus Salam Wa Rahmatullah,

If it is lawful and you will be doing the job of two people then it is permissible for you to claim the compensation for two people. It would not be considered fraudulent.

And Allah knows best.
