Dear honourable mufti sahib
I really would like to thank you for the reply. I have just copied and pasted your last fatwa below, just
for your information. We just need one more clarification.
If the muslim was saying these thoughts in the mind whenever he wanted to, 'I am not muslim, I denounce islam", whether he had control of these thoughts, without intention of Kufr.
And as these thoughts are said in the mind he loves Islam and has no intention of Kufr. These thoughts have
never been said verbally. Does saying these thoughts in the mind with no intention of Kufr make him a kaafir?
FATWA: Honourable Mufti Sahib, A Muslim has thoughts of kufr but has no intention of kufr. In his thoughts he is saying, " I am not muslim, I denounce islam". But as these statements are in his mind, he has no intention of kufr. So he emails a mufti/maulana to enquire about this and decides that instead of writing that these are thoughts he writes in the email that he has verbally said the statements, " I am not muslim, I denounce islam", when in reality he hasn't and didn't say it. And the only reason he wrote this in the email that he verbally said these particular statements was to enquire and get a ruling on such a matter. does this make him a non-muslim? He did not say the statements verbally but wrote in the email that he said the statements above just so he could get to know the ruling on such a matter. He has never had any intention of kufr and never has said any kufr statements verbally. jazakhallajhairan
The thoughts mentioned in your question are without a doubt considered statement of Kufr but if the person never vebalized them and these thought were only perculating in his beyond his control then it does not constitute Kufr. In moments like these, one should quickly seek refuge in Allah from Satan. Writing such thoughts for the purpose of inquiry does not constitute Kufr either.
Mufti Ikram ul Haq
Assalam u Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah,
Thoughts alone will not constitute Kufr unless there is consent and verbalization by the person.
And Allah knows best.
