I am a truck driver and I drive daily more than 48 miles from home to deliver goods from one place to another and return home the same day.
Am I still considered a Musafir and required to perform Qasr while away from home or Should I perform complete Salah while away?
The distance is a bona-fide travel which means that the
concessions given to travelers apply to people who travel from point A to point
B and the distance between the two points is 48 miles or more , whether daily
or occasionally. When we consider a concession given by Allah (S.W.T), we must
remember that this is something that He has granted in order to make things
easier for people when certain elements or factors apply to them. This distance
is determined by the Fuqaha who learned after a pondering into the practice of
the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) and his noble companions in this regard and the means
of travel will have no effect in determining the rulings applied to traveling.
A daily trip is no less valid for the exercise of a concession than a weekly or
a monthly one.
With regard to prayer, one concession that all schools of thought approve is
the shortening of every obligatory prayer consisting of four rak'ahs to two
Therefore, you must take advantage of this concession of shortening the four
Rak'ah prayers into two while you are outside of your home town with the
intention of traveling 48 miles or more.
And Allah knows best.
